Have you ever felt like you were in a clothing rut with regard to what to wear with gray hair? At some point, every woman has looked at her closet and thought, Ugh. Finding the right colors in clothing to flatter your gray hair is essential to you being able to feel fabulous with your silver locks.
So what to wear with gray hair?
We thought it would be fun to talk about what to wear with gray or silver hair instead of only focusing on colors not to wear.
Play with different colors. The main rule to remember is that if you are wearing colors that compliment your skin tone then most likely the color will bring out your gray/silver hair. If you are wearing colors that don't compliment your skin tone then no not necessarily, it all depends on your personal preference. A great color to wear with gray hair is chocolate brown. It's very rich looking and looks especially beautiful on women who have green or sea-green eyes. Also, navy blue and teal blue make good compliments for gray or silver hair as well as deep purple. Lilac or lavender is a great color to complement gray hair because it is so light and will look beautiful with the silver shades. Also, tartan red is beautiful with gray hair as well as rust shades.
According to one of the experts at Glamour magazine, Nicole Frusci from Goldwell North America says the majority of women want to be fun and flirty after age 40, so I think this is a great tip for older women who are looking for new colors that they can wear. Try wearing a bright color in a dress or skirt with a solid sweater.
Dress it up with a scarf. As far as accessories are concerned you can wear any color of scarf that compliments your skin tone, just remember if there is too much going on it will take away attention from your hair and onto the accessory so keep the scarf simple.
Don't shy away from accessories. Don't shy away from wearing more fun pieces with your gray hair because you never know what might look good until you try. Don't be afraid to experiment with textures and patterns. A solid color will look fabulous if you mix it with a more textured fabric and vice versa. A little texture goes a long way.
Go for higher contrast with black and white pieces. Add pops of color for interest and further contrast. Maybe now is the time to grab the perfect pair of red heels?
Shop your closet. Take a good look at the things that work and get rid of the things that don't.
Find a color mentor. Got luscious white hair? Think Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Got blond going silver? Think Helen Mirren.
According to the site Stylelist,
"Stick to black, navy, pure white—never ivory—and all the jewel tones like sapphire, royal blue, ruby, fuchsia, magenta, purple and violet," says image consultant Sandy Dumont, who has wardrobe-advised individuals and corporations for over 30 years. You'll also want to stay away from certain shades. Avoid going matchy-matchy with gray clothing, as it can age you. Greens can also be tricky, as they can actually make your hair look green when you're standing in the sunlight."
Please also keep in mind that you don't have to follow any rules and the best colors for you are ones that make you feel comfortable. If you feel like wearing blue then go ahead and wear it, if it makes you happy. The same goes with every color on this list of colors to wear with gray or silver hair.
